Counseling

Counseling

I offer counseling services to teens and adults.  I see people for a myriad of reasons from basic mental health and adjustment concerns to addressing depression, anxiety, loss, and trauma.

About Me

I received my Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology from Gonzaga University and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Montana State University.   I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), in the state of Idaho and a Certified EMDR Therapist and an EMDRIA Approved Consultant.  I am also active as a supervisor in the field of therapy helping graduate students and Licensed therapists work towards their clinical license.  I have a passion for helping professionals build their clinical skills.  I also enjoy helping professionals open a private practice that is built on high ethical standards, robust clinical skills and sound business principles.

I belong to the following counseling organizations:  EMDRIA, Idaho Mental Health Counselors Association (IMHCA) in which I was the Public Policy and Legislative Chair for 5 years, and the American Mental Health Counselor’s Association AMHCA.  I have enjoyed working on reforming the mental health system both locally and nationally.  In addition to being in Private Practice, I also developed and was the Clinical Director for a local Mental Health Agency from 1999 until 2008 when I resigned to have children and focus on my practice solely.

I work with teens and adults in an individual setting, as well as with family and/or couples.  I specialize  in trauma and have extensive training and back ground in trauma therapy .  In addition, I do general practice work with a passion for  self-concept, gay/lesbian/transgender, couples, and higher level of consciousness exploration.   I am a Certified EMDR Therapist and EMDRIA Approved Consultant and this is the primary psychotherapy I work from with the use of additional therapies as adjuncts; Attachment, family systems, internal family systems, Adlerian, depth psychology approach, existential theory.

My approach is to get clear about what the client’s needs are and their goal(s) for therapy.  EMDR is a very effective psychotherapy that can be helpful in adapting unprocessed or unadapted memories into adaptable information.  Therapy may include exploring a higher level of consciousness and gaining insight towards finding meaning and purpose in your life and your journey.  As well as integration of subconscious belief systems, conscious cognitive scripts, life experiences (good and difficult), personality and personal perspective. By exploring these areas, I believe that it provides a self discovery process that can be both therapeutic and empowering.

Will I Be a Good Fit For You?

My style is not for everyone.  My job is to help you get clear about the areas you are struggling with and what your goals are.  Often times while we may want change, we may not be willing to look at the parts of self that require change.  My job is to help you look into that space, to come to understand those parts, those patterns, and how you ended up where you are currently at.  This will take risk and is a difficult process to undertake, but one that can be more rewarding than you can imagine.

If you are up for the challenge and you want real change then I may be just the fit you are looking for.
